一、美國工業(yè)工程專業(yè)(Industrial engineering )介紹
    　　工業(yè)管理是某一工程領(lǐng)域和管理技術(shù)相結(jié)合的綜合性工程技術(shù)領(lǐng)域，以降低成本，提高質(zhì)量和生產(chǎn)率為導(dǎo)向，采用系統(tǒng)化、專業(yè)化和科學(xué)化的方法，綜合運用多種學(xué)科的知識，對人員，物料、設(shè)備、能源和信息所組成的集成系統(tǒng)進行規(guī)劃、設(shè)計、評價、創(chuàng)新和決策等工作，使之成為更有效、更合理的綜合優(yōu)化系統(tǒng)，是一門研究如何對工業(yè)企業(yè)管理系統(tǒng)和宏觀經(jīng)濟管理系統(tǒng)進行規(guī)劃、設(shè)計、評價和創(chuàng)新的學(xué)科。工業(yè)工程一直是西方工業(yè)發(fā)達國家企業(yè)管理人員培養(yǎng)的主流方向之一。
    目前在國內(nèi)尚屬一個新興學(xué)科，但它在經(jīng)濟發(fā)達國家已有近百年的歷史，對促進經(jīng)濟的發(fā)展和管理水平的提高起了巨大的推動作用。在美國約有42%的企業(yè)CEO曾就讀于工業(yè)管理工程專業(yè),工業(yè)管理工程也成為世界七大工程學(xué)科之一，經(jīng)歷上百年的豐富和發(fā)展，在西方工業(yè)文明中起著不可替代的基礎(chǔ)性的作用。本專業(yè)開設(shè)的課程將包含工業(yè)組織學(xué)、創(chuàng)新管理與技術(shù)、物流過程的仿真技術(shù)、質(zhì)量管理等。
    二、領(lǐng)域范圍
    工業(yè)工程是一門工程技術(shù)與管理技術(shù)交叉復(fù)合型工程領(lǐng)域。該領(lǐng)域覆蓋面和行業(yè)適用面較廣，如機械工程(目前是工業(yè)工程領(lǐng)域的主要對象)、電氣工程、材料工程等等。隨著現(xiàn)代科學(xué)技術(shù)的發(fā)展和系統(tǒng)科學(xué)與系統(tǒng)工程理論與方法的融入，工業(yè)工程的應(yīng)用范圍已擴大到服務(wù)行業(yè)、公用事業(yè)甚至政府部門。
    工業(yè)工程領(lǐng)域的特點是強調(diào)“系統(tǒng)觀念”和“工程意識”，重視研究對象的“統(tǒng)籌規(guī)劃、整體優(yōu)化和綜合原理”。因此，工業(yè)工程領(lǐng)域涉及的主要學(xué)科領(lǐng)域有系統(tǒng)科學(xué)、現(xiàn)代管理科學(xué)、計算機科學(xué)、運籌學(xué)、人因工程等。
    近年來現(xiàn)代工業(yè)工程領(lǐng)域涉及的專業(yè)技術(shù)體系和主要研究方向有四個方面：
    1、人因工程：包括勞動生理學(xué)、勞動心理學(xué)、勞動生物力學(xué)、組織行為學(xué)、人力資源開發(fā)與原理等。
     
        2、生產(chǎn)及制造系統(tǒng)工程：包括設(shè)施規(guī)劃與物流分析、現(xiàn)代制造工程、生產(chǎn)計劃與控制、質(zhì)量管理與可靠性等。
    3、現(xiàn)代經(jīng)營工程：包括工程經(jīng)濟、企業(yè)經(jīng)營戰(zhàn)略管理、企業(yè)過程重組、管理信息系統(tǒng)等。
    4、工業(yè)系統(tǒng)分析方法與技術(shù)：包括量化分析方法、計算機系統(tǒng)技術(shù)、系統(tǒng)優(yōu)化等。

    現(xiàn)代工業(yè)管理與工程的實踐領(lǐng)域非常寬廣，其教育面向CEO，廠長、生產(chǎn)經(jīng)理、運營經(jīng)理、物流經(jīng)理、采購經(jīng)理、技術(shù)經(jīng)理、產(chǎn)品研發(fā)主管，信息主管，包括：CTO、CIO、COO等。
    五、建議
    由于現(xiàn)代工業(yè)工程是以大規(guī)模工業(yè)生產(chǎn)及社會經(jīng)濟系統(tǒng)為研究對象，是在制造工程學(xué)、管理科學(xué)和系統(tǒng)工程學(xué)等學(xué)科基礎(chǔ)上逐步形成和發(fā)展的，因此它是一門綜合性很強的交叉學(xué)科。
    因此，在美國工業(yè)工程專業(yè)申請方面，最好有一定的工科或者理科背景，比如土木工程等，因為工業(yè)工程不同于一般工程領(lǐng)域，它應(yīng)用社會科學(xué)及經(jīng)濟管理知識、以工程技術(shù)的手段和方法主要解決系統(tǒng)的管理問題，而只有在擁有了一定的工科的背景，才能對這個領(lǐng)域才有一個系統(tǒng)的理解，才能在此基礎(chǔ)上更好得學(xué)習(xí)工業(yè)工程中的管理知識。
    在研究生的申請過程中，學(xué)校還是是比較看重學(xué)生的工作經(jīng)驗，對于應(yīng)屆生申請而言，應(yīng)該在平時打好數(shù)學(xué)和系統(tǒng)科學(xué)的基礎(chǔ)，重視計算機應(yīng)用，多參與一些與課程結(jié)合的項目實踐以及企業(yè)中的實習(xí)。至于標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化測試方面，除了語言考試TOEFL外，還需要參加GRE考試。

    GPA/GRE/TOEFL Guidelines
    Grades: Graduate students must maintain a B average to graduate. The minimum grade point average for admission to the MS program is 3.20. This minimum may be adjusted upward or downward based on the undergraduate institution and degree. Also, grades in advanced courses related to those that will be taken in the graduate program may be weighted more heavily than grades in other courses. Your personal statement should include an explanation if there are extenuating circumstances that affect interpretation of your grades.
     　　IOE highly prefers the TOEFL exam but will consider MELAB and IELTS.

    Admission to the Masters program is based on total academic and professional achievement. Applicants must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants are required to take the aptitude test sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE General Test). Successful applicants usually have GRE test scores of at least 470 Verbal, 700 Quantitative and 4.5 Analytical. Applicants whose native language is not English, or who do not hold a baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognized standing which is located in the United States, are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Successful applicants usually have scores of at least 570 (paper-based total) or 220 (computer-based total) in the TOEFL.
