背景知識：美國居民住房
    美國城市居民的住房從總體規(guī)劃與布置，到具體的設(shè)計與安排，都是比較實用舒適的。在一個小區(qū)里除住房外，學校、商店、文體設(shè)施、公園、銀行、郵局等等都一應(yīng)俱全。美國老百姓住房，就一般水平而言，不論樓房或平房也不論幾居室，在設(shè)計上大致有這樣幾個特點：一是客廳與餐廳連為一體，比較大，因為家人活動大部分時間在客廳;二是廚房比較大，并且與餐廳相連。廚房里壁櫥很多，餐具與食物都放在櫥里，看起來很簡潔。電冰箱容量大。另外就是其它電器一應(yīng)俱全，墻壁上電插頭多。這當然要有充足的電力為基礎(chǔ)。舊金山一般每月電費四、五十元。據(jù)說電力公司鼓勵多用電，辦法是一度電是十美分的話，十度電可能只收九十美分;三是臥室小，但壁櫥大而且多，十分實用。一般臥室除擺一張雙人床外，再沒有很多空間。所有衣物都掛放壁櫥里。美國人極少用箱子，如遇搬家(比較起來，他們喜歡搬家)就到商店里要幾只紙箱;四是洗手間多。一般二間以上臥室的民房都有二間以上的洗手間，而且空間大，設(shè)備完善，使用方便。
