    “善后”的表達法
    7月25日，炮火再傷聯(lián)合國駐黎巴嫩臨時部隊和軍事觀察員，而這一次，中國人不幸上了死亡者名單。在對遇難人員表示深切哀悼的同時，胡錦濤主席立即指示有關(guān)部門“妥善處理我遇難人員善后工作”。

    Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday expressed his 'deep condolences' over the death of a Chinese UN observer killed in an Israeli air raid on a UN post in south Lebanon.
    President Hu “demanded the Chinese departments concerned properly handle the aftermath of the incident and take every measure necessary to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Lebanon，” said the statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry.
    很多時候，“在漢語上下功夫”才是中英文互譯的突破口。要譯好“善后”，得首要理解“善后”的含義——災(zāi)變喪亂后，妥善處理遺留問題。單詞aftermath指“the result following a bad event such as an accident or war”（由事故或戰(zhàn)爭而導(dǎo)致的結(jié)果），很確切地表達了漢語“余秧，余波”的內(nèi)涵。
    由此，“善后” 的相應(yīng)英文表達就是“to properly handle the aftermath of the accident”。新聞中，由上下文，accident可用incident（空襲這一事件）來代替。另外，handle和deal with做“處理”時也可互換。
