Sheet”這個詞有“表格、清單”的意思，比如“spread sheet”（總分析表，一覽表），“balance sheet”（資產(chǎn)負債表），“med sheet”（用藥清單）等等。同時我們也常常看到“cheat sheet”和“rap sheet”，這又是什么表格或清單呢？
    “Cheat sheet”有“cheat”（欺騙），想當然的話，一定會認為它是個貶義詞。的確，“cheat sheet”原意有“小抄”的意思，所以字典里的定義是“A piece of paper with information written down on it that an unethical person might create if they weren't prepared for a test.”。然而，“cheat sheet”的說法已經(jīng)走出了貶義的陰影，成為“簡要說明，步驟說明書”的意思。例如：
    We asked the engineer to develop a cheat sheet for this machine.我們要求工程師給我們弄個簡單的機器說明書。
    The cheat sheet was attached to the package of the camera.說明書就貼在照相機的包裝盒上。
    而“rap sheet”的意思則有些不太好猜?！皉ap”有很多意思，如“輕敲，扣擊”“，”斥責“；同時”rap“還指上世紀七十年代在美國興起的一種音樂形式，即說唱音樂。但”rap sheet“的意思與以上說法都沒什么關系。在美國俚語中，”rap“還有懲罰的意思，例如：
    They gave him a big rap.他們狠狠地教訓了他一頓。
    “Rap sheet”其實指的是“犯罪記錄”。例如：
    This neighbor of theirs has a long rap sheet. 他們的這個街坊犯過不少事。
    I have never had a rap sheet and my record is clean.我從來沒有犯過事，清清白白。
