    v. 凝視；盯著看。如：
    It is not polite to stare at others.
    盯著別人看是一種不禮貌的行為。
    She stared them into silence.
    她瞪了他們一眼，他們都不說話了。
    n. 凝視。如：
    He gave her a rude stare and said nothing.
    他很無禮地瞪了她一眼，什么也沒說。（a stare表示“瞪一眼”這個動作。）

     辨析：stare和glare
     這兩個詞都有“瞪”的意思，但表現(xiàn)出來的感情色彩不同。stare有可能是因為驚異、責怪，或者是出于想給對方一個下馬威的原因；而glare多半是表示對對方極度憤怒，給人一種“怒目圓睜”的感覺。
