            2016 Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Development Programme - China
            The programme:
            Our Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Development Programme will prepare you for a career like no other. You’ll be based in one of our businesses, so you can expect to gain an end-to-end knowledge of manufacturing engineering in aerospace, nuclear or marine. That knowledge will be gained as you work on live projects during three four-month placements in capability acquisition, product introduction and continuous improvement. In addition to these placements you will partner with your fellow graduates to deliver your own improvement project. Along the way, you’ll undertake comprehensive training and be supported by line managers, career coaches and your own development consultant.
            What you’ll do:
            Manufacturing Engineering places a big focus on teamwork. So you can expect to collaborate with great minds in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. You could take on real responsibility as you introduce major pieces of equipment, develop efficiency-improving manufacturing systems or tackle continuity threats. Or you could be integrating activity for manufacturing launch plans, helping our suppliers develop more efficient methodologies and introducing new materials specifications. It’s complex and challenging work that will get your career off to a great start.

            2016 Purchasing Graduate Development Programme - China
            The programme:
            Our Purchasing Graduate Development Programme will immerse you in real projects, ensuring you gain invaluable hands-on experience. Depending on where your interests lie, over 18 months you’ll complete between three or four placements, lasting either three or six months each. These will be spent in roles such as Buyer or Materials Resource Planning Controller before you get to experience what it takes to shine in areas like Purchasing Development, Value Improvement or Forward Sourcing. Coupled with this will be our comprehensive training programme and support from our expert team and a series of mentors. You’ll also be expected to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), so you won’t just learn from the experts, you’ll become one of them.
            What you’ll do:
            Over your placements, you’ll experience a mix of on-the-job learning, modular training and project work. The aim is to give you the best possible grounding for your future career. As a Buyer that’s likely to mean being based on-site as you work with teams from all over the business to select suppliers, negotiate deals and drive performance. In Purchasing Development, you’ll develop strategy, deliver improvements and build influential relationships with senior stakeholders. Beyond that, you can expect to gain a real understanding of how our supply chain works, and the role Purchasing plays in tackling bottlenecks, ensuring supply meets demand and even putting new engines into production.

            We’re looking for graduates with a solid business understanding and exceptional relationship management skills – so you’ll be someone who knows how to earn trust and inspire respect. Driven and ambitious, you won’t be afraid to make big decisions and you’ll work with integrity across every aspect of every project.
            2016 Operations Management Graduate Development Programme - China
            The programme:
            Our Operations Management Graduate Development Programme is designed to give you an immersive, hands-on experience across the different areas of Operations. You’ll get first-class training, mentoring and support, and you’ll also learn from some of the most respected and highly qualified professionals in their field.
            Your first three placements - each lasting six months - will provide you with experience in areas such as Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering or Quality/Improvement. You’ll spend time in a manufacturing environment so by the end of your 18 months you’ll have gained a solid understanding of the breadth of what we do in Operations. After this, you’ll challenge yourself with a 12 month leadership role where you will be supported to develop people and grow your performance management skills. Throughout, we’ll encourage you to gain membership of a relevant professional body. There’s a lot to take in, so you’ll be supported by a graduate development consultant and career coach – who will do all they can to ensure you get the most out of the programme.
            What you’ll do:
            Your first 18 months will see you experience the full value chain as you learn how to manage suppliers, negotiate price reductions for aerospace parts and influence commodity strategy. You’ll also have the chance to take responsibility for sourcing and managing a portfolio of parts, and spend time gaining a technical understanding of manufacturing and Lean processes on the shop floor. You may even have the opportunity to drive your own improvement project. After this, you’ll take on a 12 month leadership role in a manufacturing environment where you’ll build on what you’ve learned, and discover how to lead a team to meet customer demands. Whatever stage you’re at, you’ll ask questions, think critically and look for ways to improve.
