    MR. FRITH: I like this television very much.
    How much does it cost?
    ASSISTANT: It's the most expensive model in the shop.
    It costs five hundred pounds.
    MR. FRITH: That's too expensive for us.
    We can't afford all that money.
    ASSISTANT: This model's less expensive than that one.
    It's only three hundred pounds. But, of course,it's not as good as the expensive one.
    MR. FRITH: I don't like the model.
    The other model's more expensive, but it's worth the money.
    MR. FRITH: Can we buy it on instalments?
    ASSISTANT: Of course.
    You can pay a deposit of thirty pounds, and then fourteen pounds a month for three years.
    MR. FRITH: Do you like it, dear?
    MRS. FRITH:I certainly do,but I don't like the price.
    You always want the best,but we can't afford it.
    Sometimes you think you're a millionaire!
    MR. FRITH: Millionaires don't buy things on instalments!

    I have bought this house on instalments.

    2．…and then fourteen pounds a month for three years．……然后每月14鎊，3年付清。
    then和fourteen之間省略了pay。形容詞的平級比較級：as…as
    形容詞的比較形式有3種：較高比較級(more expensive, the most expensive)；較低比較級(less expensive, the least expensive) ；平級
    比較級 (as expensive as)。
    請看下面句中as…as的用法：
    The green apple is as sweet as the red one.

    （1）買得起；付得起（錢）：
    She can't afford a new coat.
    她買不起一件新大衣。
    We are not rich enough to afford a car.
    我們并不太富有，不能購置汽車。
    （2）擔(dān)負(fù)得起（時(shí)間等）：
    I feel I can' t afford any more time on this project.
    我覺得我不能再在這個(gè)項(xiàng)目上花更多的時(shí)間。
    We can't afford such enormous fees.
    我們無法負(fù)擔(dān)如此巨額的費(fèi)用。
    2．deposit
    （1）n．預(yù)付定金；押金；保證金：
    He put down a deposit on the house yesterday.
    昨天他付了房子的定金。
    You'll have to pay a deposit of ＄ 60 to reserve the room
    要預(yù)定這個(gè)房間，你需交付60美金的押金。
    （2）v．存放；存儲(chǔ)：
    We were advised to deposit our valuables in the bank safe
    別人建議我們將自己的貴重物品存放在銀行的保險(xiǎn)箱里。
    （3）付（保證金）；預(yù)付（定金）：
    I deposited ＄ 1,500 on a new car.
