    分析：本句的主干并不復(fù)雜，是個典型的主語從句，只不過由于主語從句過長而采用了it做形式主語，即：It was argued that…，真正的主語是兩個由that引導(dǎo)的主語從句，這兩個主語從句之間由連詞but來連接。第一個主語從句包含主句humans do not cry和原因狀語從句because they are sad，注意此處主句中的否定詞not不是否定cry，而是否定because，相當(dāng)于humans cry not because they are sad(人類哭，不是因為悲傷)。第二個主語從句包含主句they become sad 和時間狀語從句when the tears begin to flow，此處的連接詞when表達(dá)的是原因。
